In order to make a society crime free and a healthy society parole officers play a predominant role. Parole officers are very much inter-related with the justice system. They help to maintain the peace of the society. Parole officers are vested with the responsibility of keeping an eye on the early released prisoners and to provide a report based on their behavior. Once the prisoners are released and they start their normal lives in the community it is the job of the parole officers to evaluate their behavior.

There are two kinds of parole officers. The first kind includes those officers who work inside the prison or rehabilitation centers. They monitor the behavior of the prisoners and write reports on their interactions. It is on the basis of their reports that the parole board decides whether a prisoner is eligible for release before his date of release. To be in the good books of the parole officers the guilty must behave properly with his inmates, other officers, demonstrate ethical values and maintain a good persona throughout the different programs held in the prison. The second group includes those parole officers who deal with the prisoners once they have been released from the prison. They help the parolees to jobs and settle properly after being released. They also monitor groups of parolees once they have settled together in one place. They help the parolees to communicate with the society and build a proper lifestyle for themselves. If the parolee is found not following the norms of early-release he will be revoked.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB:

The criteria to become a parole officer state that one must be a citizen of U.S. One must have a Bachelors Degree from an educational institution. Additionally one is also required to be a master in such subjects like corrections science or criminology or have an experience of two years. And the most important criteria are that one must be of at least 20 years of age. Many other tests are also performed to appoint one as a parole officer. The candidate also has to go through a drug test and a check on background is also done. Since the job of a parole officer is very dangerous the more physically fit one is the better. The candidate can also be trained in arms handling.

POSSIBLE CAREERS:

More than 200 cases are handled by a parole officer at one time. Once the courses have been completed and a candidate is eligible for becoming a parole officer, he gets a job as these jobs are very much in demand. It can be called reliable as a career as parole officers are always needed. The salary for a parole officer depends on one’s qualification and experience. Location also affects a parole officer’s salary. The more experienced a parole officer is the more salary he gets. A parole officer normally gets above $39,000 a year and it increases with experience.
